To protect the public, Governor Ademola Adeleke restricted the use of the Olaiya bridge by heavy-duty trucks and trailers, but the bridge has not been demolished.
The State Security Council adopted the decision as a resolution after members expressed concern about the recent influx of trailers and heavy-duty trucks on Osun roads. This decision was based primarily and primarily on public safety.
In response to accusations of political bias made by opposition leaders, the State Governor's Spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, said in a statement that the Governor has a sacred duty to protect residents and public assets, especially in light of two major events that have occurred in recent weeks.
“In recent times, a number of technical reports have been submitted to the Governor regarding the deteriorating condition of some sections of the bridge. A group of public interest engineers approached the government in January to request a bridge integrity test. During a recent technical visit to the state, some national construction industry leaders arrived at a similar conclusion.
“Several state leaders have also visited and examined the bridge, concluding that immediate action is required to preserve the assets and ensure public safety. Similar excursions can also be made by the general public on top of and around the
bridge.
